FAQ

  • Do I have to buy a whole roll?
We offer cut yardage on Textilene® 80%, Textilene® 90%, Textilene® SuperScreen, Textilene® Pet Screen, and Coolaroo Commercial 95 fabrics. All other products are full roll only. Please see our cut-to-length fabric section for pricing.

  • What is the difference between 80%/90% and Commercial 95?
Textilene® 80% and 90% solar screen are PVC coated polyester mesh, used for windows, doors, and roll shades. Commercial 95 is a commercial grade knitted shade cloth used in shade sails, canopy covers and tension structures.

  • Why are sun screens better than bug screens?
Solar screens typically cover the entire outside of the window to block out the sun's harmful rays while letting the breeze in and keeping bugs out. Bug screens cover half of the window leaving the window only partially protected from the sun’s UV rays.

  • Should I use the 80% or the 90% screening?
If you prefer more light and better airflow you should purchase 80%. If you prefer more glare reduction and energy efficiency you should purchase the 90% because of its tighter weave.

  • Will solar screens darken the room?
80% solar screens still allow plenty of light to come in whereas 90% solar screens may noticeably darken the room.

  • Can you see through the 80%/90%?
Solar screens provide excellent visibility, especially the darker colors, while at the same time providing daytime privacy from people outside seeing in.

  • What do you use to clean 80%/90% and other Textilene® mesh products?
Proper care includes regular cleaning with a mild natural soap and lukewarm water (not to exceed 100° F.) DO NOT USE DETERGENTS. A soft bristled brush should be used to loosen soil on the fabric surface.

  • Does 80%/90% reduce heat?
Solar screens are designed to reduce heat transfer that is generated when the sun's rays passes through the glass windows allowing for up to 20% energy savings.

  • Should I take my solar screens off in winter?
Solar screens create somewhat of a barrier, keeping the cold winter winds off your glass, therefore, keeping the temperature of the glass warmer. The warmer you keep the glass, the less energy you waste trying to keep rooms heated.

  • Can I use 80%/90% indoors?
Solar screens are most effective on the outside of the window. The solar screen is made to reflect the sun's heat and UV rays before it reaches the glass but can be used inside usually on some type of roll shade.

  • Can 80%/90% solar screen & Commercial 95 be sewn?
The fabric can be sewn using a commercial sewing machine & heavy duty polyester or PTFE thread.

  • Will water leak through 80%/90% solar screen & Commercial 95?
Water will pass through these products but may puddle so we recommend the 80% Textilene® because of its larger mesh openings for panels that are installed flat.

  • Is the Commercial 95 the same material that is found at building supply stores?
It's a “commercial grade” product from Coolaroo which are heavier and stronger than commonly found at building supply stores.

  • Is 80%/90% solar screen & Commercial 95 easy to cut?
You can use shears or razor knife to cut the fabrics and will not unravel, tear, or fray.
